Freedom (That’s What I Want) by John Boytosh

SONG REVIEW by Leslie J. Bialik (Real Rock Reviews) on MusicXray

“retro-feeling” “tasty guitar tones”

This song recalls the music of the late ’60s and early ’70s, and is somewhat similar in style to Lenny Kravitz’ music. Although it is musically fairly simple, the rhythms and syncopated beats keep the listener interested. The musical breaks and changes along with the instrumental spots make this an ideal song for a live setting. The groove never stops no matter what else is happening in the song, and I think a live audience would be bouncing and headbanging through the entire performance. I thought the musicianship across the board was very good, and I particularly enjoyed the tasty guitar work. The vocals have a unique sound and, along with the compositional style, make for an identifiable sound for the band. The production values and mix also are very similar to those of early rock productions and this really enhances the feeling and tone of the song. You’ve done a nice job of songwriting, performing and producing this retro-feeling rockin’ song with a style and sound of your own. Keep up the great work! Thanks for letting me listen to your music!
